The Olympic medal changed my life, but I have forgotten it: wrestler Aman Sehrawat

Winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics has brought a lot of burden from Aman Sehrawat’s shoulders but this young wrestler says that he has already forgotten this achievement as he will not be able to fulfill his big dreams due to sitting on the achievements of the past.

Life was not easy for this wrestler born in Birohar due to an orphan at a young age. His uncle supported him fully, but family responsibilities continued to overshadow peace. But by winning a bronze medal in Paris last year, he got recognition and money, which made his life easier.

After winning the 57 kg selection trial for the World Championship, Aman told PTI, “The Olympic medal changed my life 90 percent. Nobody knew me before. Earlier my performance was not noticed, but after the success of Paris, people started to know me, respecting me. I felt that I had done something for the country and had paid 10-15 years of hard work.

He said, “The Olympic medal is the blessing of God. I did not even expect to win. There were high expectations from women wrestlers. This is Prasad given by God. “Aman said,” It also inspired me. People are now expecting a gold medal from me. I have already forgotten my bronze medal. I cannot be satisfied with this and say that I have achieved a lot. Now I am preparing for the gold medal. ”

Regarding how success at the top level has changed his life, he said, “Now I can buy whatever I want. At first I was under pressure that in future I have to teach my younger sister and marry her. Now I can be relaxed and practice. Now I do not have to worry about money. ”

Aman said, “It is not that we were not taken care of. My uncle has always supported us, but everyone thinks about what is the responsibility of an elder brother. ”Aman has participated in only two tournaments since the Paris Olympics. He could not participate in the Senior Asian Championships. He said, “After the Olympics, I thought I would practice abroad but things are not always the same as you expect.” Then I was also injured. ”

Aman said, “After winning the Olympic medal, the fear of losing was also dominated by me. I thought if I lost, people would say that success has spoiled me. Therefore, the coaches said that you are at a different level and you have to perform your best to get on the mat.
