A flight of Air India coming from Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi had to be diverted to Chennai on Sunday (August 10) when the crew came to know about suspected technical fault due to bad weather on the way. The airline has confirmed that the flight number A12455 landed safely in Chennai and the aircraft will be investigated. Many MPs including Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal were also present in this aircraft.

A spokesperson to Air India said that the crew of AI2455, which flew from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi on August 10, turned to Chennai, a precautionary technical problem and bad weather on the way, and the aircraft landed safely in Chennai.

He said that we are sorry for the inconvenience caused to the affected passengers. In Chennai, our associates are providing assistance to reduce the inconvenience of passengers and are making alternative arrangements to reach their destination as soon as possible. Many MPs were also riding in this plane.

Vengopal said that about an hour later the captain announced a malfunction in the flight signal and turned the aircraft towards Chennai. For about two hours, we kept traveling around the airport waiting for permission to land. It was told that there was another aircraft on the same runway. At that moment, the decision of the captain to stop immediately saved the lives of all the people in the aircraft. In the second attempt, the aircraft landed safely.

He said that we survived skills and luck, but the safety of passengers cannot depend on luck. I appeal to the DGCA and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to immediately investigate the incident, decide the accountability and make sure that such lapses never happen again.
