The rain is wreaking havoc in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. So far 7 people have died in different areas due to severe rains and current. Waterlogging has been created in many places including Beniappukur, Kalikapur, Netaji Nagar, Gariahat and Iqbalpur. The service of metro and train has also come to a standstill. There is a lot of water on the streets of the city.

According to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), the intensity of rain was more in the southern and eastern parts of the city. Garia Kamdhari received 332 mm of rain in a few hours, while Jodhpur Park recorded 285 mm of rain. Kalighat received 280 mm, Tourcia 275 mm, Balliganj 264 mm, while Tantania in Northern Kolkata received 195 mm of rain.

What information did the Meteorological Department give about rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that due to the low pressure area of ​​the Bay of Bengal, there is a possibility of heavy rains in many districts of South Bengal. The northeast of the Bay of Bengal has become a low pressure area and is likely to move north-west, which may lead to light to very heavy rains in some districts of South Bengal.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains are likely to receive heavy rains in the former Medinipur and West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, Jhargram and Bankura districts of South Bengal till Wednesday (24 September).

The festival of Durga Puja is celebrated on a very large scale in the entire West Bengal including Kolkata, but due to rain, the pandals of worship have been submerged in many places. At the same time, pandals have been uprooted in many places. The water is also flooded inside the houses.
