This Pakistani cricketer suddenly retired from international cricket, did not get a chance for two years

Pakistan batsman Asif Ali has suddenly announced his retirement from international cricket. He made this decision after being ignored in the T20 Asia Cup 2025. Asif, 33, told about retirement through social media posts. He had not played any match for the Pakistan team for the last two years. He last landed in Pakistan’s jersey in October 2023. Asif played 21 ODIs and 58 T20 matches for Pakistan, mainly played the role of finisher in the middle order.
Asif has confirmed that he will continue to play in domestic cricket and franchise leagues around the world. He wrote on his Instagram account that, today I announce retirement from international cricket. Wearing Pakistan’s jersey has been the greatest honor of my life and it was a matter of pride for me to serve my country on the cricket field. I am retiring with immense gratitude. I will continue my passion for sports by playing domestic and league cricket around the world. He made an international debut against the West Indies in April 2018.
There were many memorable cameos in Asif’s career. When Pakistan needed 24 runs off 12 balls against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2021, Asif hit four sixes in the last over of Karim Janat. He had confirmed Pakistan’s victory with one over by scoring 25 runs off just seven balls. This innings proved to be important in reaching the semi -finals of Pakistan. He did an important cameo in the Asia Cup after a year. He then helped Pakistan chase the target of 182 runs by scoring 16 runs off 8 balls in the final over against India. Pakistan won by 5 wickets.
