On Thursday (4 September 2025) in the West Bengal Assembly, there was a huge uproar between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs after a fierce dispute. After this, five BJP MLAs were suspended.
The uproar started before Mamta Banerjee spoke
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was about to speak on the proposal that the uproar started. On September 2, BJP MLAs raised slogans, questioning the suspension of the Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari, which received a sharp reaction from the ruling party. This increased the conflict, as the Trinamool Congress MLAs opposed the slogans, which led to many disruption in the assembly proceedings.
Shankar Ghosh was taken out of the assembly
On continuing the uproar, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Biman Banerjee suspended BJP Chief Whip Shankar Ghosh from the assembly proceedings for the remaining day on charges of spreading chaos. The assembly marshals were called and dragged out of the House, which was strongly opposed by the opposition members.
Later, BJP MLAs Agnimitra Paul, Mihir Goswami, Bankim Ghosh and Ashok Dinda were suspended as the uproar increased. The atmosphere was hot due to a fierce debate between the two sides in the House. Marshal was present to prevent any kind of scuffle between the two groups. CM Mamta Banerjee questioned, “Why is BJP not telling me to speak in the House?”
Marshal came between TMC and BJP MLAs
At one time, many MLAs of Trinamool Congress were seen moving towards BJP’s benches, after which Marshal immediately intervened. Despite the uproar, Chairman Biman Banerjee did not postpone the proceedings of the House and remained adamant on continuing the scheduled proceedings. BJP MLAs also alleged that during the uproar, water bottles were thrown at them from the ruling party.
The Chief Minister accused the BJP MLAs of deliberately thwarting the plight of Bengali migrant workers. He alleged, “BJP does not want the truth to be revealed.” They are disrupting the proceedings of the House to divert attention from the real issues. ”After the Chief Minister’s speech ended, the BJP Legislature Party extended the assembly from the assembly. The proposal was passed by soundly and BJP members went out of the House before the voting.
