TYPE-8 Bungalow: Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar did not ask for any government house, ministry has arranged big bungalows- report
Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has not yet contacted the Ministry of Urban Development for the official residence. Nevertheless, the Directorate of Estates has vacated a type-8 bungalow on his Delhi APJ Abdul Kalam Road. India Today quoted sources as saying that if Dhankar refuses to take a bungalow, the ministry can give them some other option. According to government eligibility, former presidents, vice-presidents and Prime Ministers are either allocated type-8 bungalows in Lutyens Delhi or two acres of land are given at their ancestral residence.
What reasons were given in the letter to the President
Let us know that 74 -year -old Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President on July 22, citing health concerns. In his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu, he wrote that I resign from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect as per Article 67 (A) of the Constitution to give priority to healthcare and to follow medical advice.
Voting for Vice President’s election on 9 September
On July 21, on the very first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, he left his post shortly after presiding as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The Election Commission has announced that voting for the next Vice President’s election will be held on 9 September and the last date for filing nomination is 21 August. Results will be declared on the same day.
Under Article 66 of the Constitution, the Vice President is elected by an electoral college, which is made only by members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, who cast their votes through secret voting using the single vote system.
