UPI Down in India! Many users are unable to do transactions, PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay payment stuck
The Unified Payments Interface, or UPI service across the country was down on Thursday (7 August 2025), causing people to face problems in transaction. This is the fourth time this year, when people came to a standstill due to the stagnation of UPI. Due to this disturbance, transactions were interrupted in major banks including HDFC Bank, State Bank of Baroda and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Phonpe, Paytm, Google Pay payment stuck
From around 7.45 pm on Thursday evening, there were reports that the users are not able to complete the transaction on Google Pay, Phonepe, Paytm and other major platforms. At the same time, till 8 pm, 2,147 outage complaints were filed on the dowdatector. About 80 percent of these complaints were related to lack of payment. The dowdater is an online platform that gives users information about the status of various websites and services.
Transaction of 25.14 lakh crore through UPI last month
The popularity of UPI in India is increasing rapidly with the facility of transferring money immediately through the clock round the clock through mobile and 365 days of the year. According to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), a transaction of Rs 25.08 lakh crore was done through UPI in the last month (July 2025). At the same time, in May 2025, a transaction of Rs 25.14 lakh crore took place through UPI.
According to NPCI, in July 2025, average Daily Transaction Count 628 million was recorded through UPI and Rs 80,919 crore was recorded at Rs 80,919 crore. In June 2025, more than Rs 24.04 lakh crore was paid through UPI and a total of 18.40 billion transactions were done.
Global Leader in India Fast Payment- IMF
According to the recently released note by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), India has emerged as a global leader in fast payment. The basic basis of this change is UPI. The UPI system now serves 491 million people and 65 million traders. This adds 675 banks on the same platform, so that people can easily pay without any concern.
