US TARIFF: India started action on Trump’s tariff, Japan, Germany, France and Italy and plan together
America has imposed a 50 percent tariff on India. Since this decision, the country’s textile industries have had a profound impact. America is one of the major exporting countries of India, so this decision has become a cause of concern for India. However, to deal with this trouble, the government has planned to promote the export of clothes in the global market by changing its strategy.
According to the PTI report, according to a senior official associated with the case, India will run a dedicated outreach program in a total of 40 countries of the world. These countries include Britain, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Canada, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Turki, UAE and Australia. With this initiative, India will try to install a supply chain of quality sustainable and innovation based cloth products.
Role of Indian Industry and Missions
The official said that a separate plan will be prepared for every country. Indian Export Promotion Councils (EPC) and abroad Indian missions will play a major role in this initiative. India will increase the trade promotion by connecting directly to local buyers, fashion brands and retail sector. During this time, the special focus of India will be on sustainable textile and high-tech fabric.
India’s strategy regarding global market
The demand for sustainable and organic fabric is increasing in the international market. India wants to promote its handloom, technical textile and eco-friendly products as an opportunity. Despite increasing tariffs in America, many countries in Europe and Asia can give a big market to India under Free Trade Agreements (FTA). This initiative of India is considered to be an attempt not only to increase exports, but to form a long -term partnership in new markets.
India’s textile industry
According to the PIB report, India’s textile industry costs more than $ 350 billion (about 29 lakh crore rupees) and it is expected to reach $ 350 billion by 2030. It contributes significantly to the Indian economy, which creates employment opportunities and increases export income. Also, it is considered the second largest employment field after agriculture. More than 4.5 crore people work in this area.
India has exported textile products worth US $ 34.4 billion in FY 2023-24. In this export, the cost of apparel, raw materials and non-governmental equals is 42,34 and 30 per cent. These figures show that India not only holds a strong position in the global textile market through not only finished clothes, but also raw materials and value-edited products.
