‘Use of bills sending PM-CM to jail in Vice Presidential election’, Mallikarjun Kharge’s big statement
The National President of the Indian National Congress (INC) Mallikarjun Kharge has given a statement on the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill on Saturday (August 23, 2025). What did Congress President say on the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill,
Congress President and Leader of Rajya Sabha Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Many people have been implicated in the cases of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax (IT). What is the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Civil Procedure Code? The law which has been going on for the last 75 years, is it useless?”
He said, “You should have brought this bill with the consent of everyone, but instead an attempt is being made to intimidate its opposition and to take the coalition parties together. It is also going to be used in the Vice Presidential elections.”
Government introduced bills to bring PM, CM to Minister under the purview of law
In fact, Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently introduced the 130th Amendment Bill of the Constitution in the Lok Sabha. According to this bill, if he is kept in jail for 30 consecutive days in a criminal case from the person sitting on the post of Prime Minister to the Union Minister, Chief Minister or any minister, he will have to resign on the 31st day, otherwise he will be removed from the post.
Opposition opposed the bill introduced by the government
The bill, presented in the Lok Sabha by the central government, was strongly opposed by the leaders of political parties involved in the opposition India alliance. Congress, SP, Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs, while questioning the constitutionality of this bill, have demanded the government to withdraw this bill. However, now the bill brought for the 130th amendment to the Constitution has been sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee. Where all the provisions in this bill will be discussed intensively and after that it will be introduced to pass it.
