Uttarakhand, who is struggling with disaster, gets the support of the center, PM Modi visited, announces relief package

On Thursday (September 11, 2025), Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the damage caused by natural disasters such as recent excesses, landslides, cloudburst and floods in various areas of Uttarakhand and announced a Rs 1200 crore relief package for the state.

According to a government release, the Prime Minister in a high -level review meeting here reviewed relief and rehabilitation work and disaster damage in the affected areas in Uttarakhand. He announced a Rs 1200 crore relief package for Uttarakhand.

During this time, the Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia amount for the families of people who lost their lives in the disaster and Rs 50,000 thousand for the injured. Officials said that the Prime Minister had to conduct an aerial survey of the disaster -hit areas of the state, but it was canceled due to bad weather.

Uttarakhand Governor Lt. General (Retired) Gurmeet Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, besides state MP and central and state government officials were also present in this meeting held at Jolly Grant Airport.

Selection based on the report of central teams

The Prime Minister acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and assured that the central government would make all efforts to deal with the situation. He said that at this time the assistance declared under the Disaster Management Act and rules including advance payment to the states is for the interim period and the central government will further review the assessment based on the memorandum of the states and the report of the central teams.

A inter-ministerial team of the central government has visited the disaster-prone districts of Uttarakhand this week. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to adopt a multidimensional approach to help the entire region and people overcome it, including rebuilding houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, repairing national highways, rebuating schools, giving relief through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and distributing mini kits for animals.

PM’s condolences to people who lost their lives

He said that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, financial assistance will be provided to those eligible families whose houses have been damaged by disaster under the ‘Special Project’ presented by the Uttarakhand government for reconstruction of houses in rural areas.

The Prime Minister also met disaster affected families. He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives in the disaster. The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia amount of two lakh rupees for the families of those killed in disasters and 50-50 thousand rupees for the seriously injured.

CM Dhami expressed gratitude to the Center

The Prime Minister also announced that the orphans in the recent disasters will be assisted by the ‘PM Carers for Children’s Scheme’, which will ensure their long -term care and welfare. The Prime Minister, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Prevention Force (SDRF) and the disaster friend also met volunteers and appreciated their efforts in relief and rescue operations.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Chief Minister Dhami on reaching Jolly Grant Airport in the evening. Dhami has thanked the Prime Minister for declaring a relief package. He said that he is grateful to the people of the state for the announcement of a relief package to compensate for the damage caused by the disaster in Uttarakhand.

Opposition told relief package ‘cumin in camel’s mouth’

He said, ‘The Prime Minister himself has come to Uttarakhand and shared the grief of disaster victims. There is a lot of gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister for intimacy and sensitivity to the state. However, the opposition Congress described this relief package as insufficient and called it ‘cumin in the camel’s mouth’.

Senior Vice President (Organization) of the State Congress, Suryakant Dhasmana said, “Given the damage in the state, this package is very low and is like cumin in the camel’s mouth.” Dhasmana compared the disaster damage in various fields to the Kedarnath disaster in 2013, saying, “12 years ago, Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government gave a package of Rs 21 thousand crore to Uttarakhand, but today the package announced by Modiji is not only insufficient, but his love and attachment to Uttarakhand is also going to open.”

81 people died due to disaster in Uttarakhand, 94 others missing

In this monsoon season, various regions of the state like Dharali-Harshil in Uttarkashi district, Tharali in Chamoli, Jakholi-Baskar in Rudraprayag, Kapkot in Bageshwar, Sainzi in Pauri have had a huge destruction due to natural disasters like excess rainfall, cloudburst, floods, landslides. According to the latest official data, 81 persons have died in natural disasters in the state since April 1 this year, while 94 others are missing. 80 people have also been injured in these disasters.
