Vice Presidential Election: NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan and India Block’s B.K. Clot in Sudarshan Reddy, whose pan is heavy, know who will be victorious

Elections will be held on Tuesday (September 9, 2025) for the post of Vice President. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate and Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan India Block candidate and former Supreme Court Judge B Sudarshan Reddy is taking a huge lead. The post of Vice President has become vacant due to Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation on July 21.

In the 781 -member electoral college, the BJP -led NDA has a number of about 427, which is more than the required majority (391). Radhakrishnan is moving towards the decisive victory. The support of non -India block parties like YSR Congress Party (11 MP) further strengthens the position of NDA, while Biju Janata Dal (7 MPs) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (4 MPs) have confirmed that they will stay away from voting.

Voting will start at 10 am today
Polling will be held in Parliament House from 10 am to 5 pm and counting will start at 6 pm. The result is expected to come by late evening. In other elections, where MPs have to follow the party’s whip, while the post of Vice President is elected by secret voting and members do not need to follow the instructions.

How will the election be held?
On the eve of the election, both the NDA and the Congress-led opposition held separate meetings to explain the election process to their MPs and mock polls were also organized to ensure preparations. MPs will be given ballot papers with the names of both the candidates and they will have to tell their choice by writing points “1” in front of their chosen candidates.

According to the election rules, “Numerals can be inscribed in international form of Indian numerals, in Roman numerals, or in the numerals of any Indian language, but not in words.” This ensures clarity and uniformity in the voting process.

The Vice President has 781 members in the electoral college for the election, out of which 542 are from Lok Sabha and 239 from Rajya Sabha. The majority figure to choose the Vice President is 391.
