According to intelligence inputs, in 2012, Lashkar terrorist Hilal Dar, who was a resident of Sopore, was assigned the responsibility of killing Malik. Malik performed anti -India protests in 2013
The matter reached a turn in 2013 when Afzal Guru, convicted of the Indian Parliament attack, was hanged. During that time Malik was in Pakistan and organized anti -India demonstrations. Lashkar founder Hafiz Saeed also participated in these demonstrations. According to sources, during these demonstrations, Malik personally pleaded with Hafiz Saeed for mercy and promised that he would never cooperate with Indian agencies and only follow the ISI’s instructions.
Government of India took major action
After returning to India, the government canceled Malik’s passport in 2013. His wife Mashal Malik, who is a Pakistani citizen, was also refused to give a visa. After this, Malik along with Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq formed the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL). This organization led activities like mass demonstrations, bandh, stone pelting and even targeting schools in Kashmir.
Yasin is lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019
In 2017, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took major action on the separatist network and arrested several leaders and their colleagues. Two years later, the central government banned JKLF and arrested Malik. Since 2019, he has been closed in cases of funding terrorism in Tihar Jail in Delhi.
