Aamir Sheikh’s return to laborers sent to Bangladesh from Rajasthan, BSF said in court- ‘limit was crossed by mistake’

With the help of the Border Security Force (BSF) by the Rajasthan Police, the security forces handed over the ‘missing’ laborer on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) to Bashirhat police in North 24 Parganas district, about one and a half months after the Border Security Force (BSF) was allegedly sent to Bangladesh.

However, on Wednesday (August 13, 2025), the BSF said before the Calcutta High Court that he had caught Aamir when he was trying to return without valid papers. The BSF claimed that he had mistakenly gone to the neighboring country.

Captured corpus petition filed in High Court

The High Court, in its order, noted the plea of the additional public prosecutor representing the state police that if Aamir’s father contacts the police officers, then all the necessary documents will be handed over to him.

Aamir’s father Jiam Sheikh filed a prisoner corpus petition in the High Court alleging that his son was first detained illegally by the state police in Rajasthan, where he had gone in search of work a few months ago and was later sent across the border.

Identity verification campaign

According to the petition, 19 -year -old Aamir, a resident of Kaliachak, Malda, went on April 3 in search of livelihood and then went to Sikar in Odisha and then Sikar in Rajasthan. He used to work as a laborer in Rajasthan. Rajasthan Police officials, along with BSF personnel on 25 June, launched an identity verification campaign at Aamir’s workplace and forcibly taken it into custody.

The petitioner alleged that he was kept in a custody center outside Sikar, on June 28, he was sent to Bangladesh. Meanwhile, during the hearing of the habeas corpus petition in the High Court, Deputy Solicitor General Rajdeep Majumdar said that the BSF has filed a report, stating that Aamir inadvertently crossed the border and went to Bangladesh and was caught while returning to India without any legitimate papers.

Informed court on the next date of hearing

Mazumdar said before the bench of Justice Tapbrata Chakraborty and Justice Ritobrato Kumar Mitra that Aamir was then handed over to the local police in Basirhat. The bench directed the Majumdar representing the BSF to get further information on the issue and inform the court on the next date of hearing.

The BSF said in its report that it had asked the police to register an FIR against Aamir Sheikh, as he could not present any documents. The state lawyer argued in the court that no case has been registered so far. The petitioner’s counsel said that a copy of Aamir Sheikh’s birth certificate has been attached along with the petition, stating that he is a citizen of India and a resident of Kaliachak in Malda district.
