The 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Assam on Sunday (September 14, 2025) put people in panic. Residents of Guwahati came out of their homes in panic. After the earthquake, the people of the capital of Assam recalled the moment when earthquake shocks occurred.
A few days ago, there was a 3.2 magnitude earthquake in Sonitpur, Assam. Actually, the area of Assam falls in the earthquake sensitive area. It is located on the position of Eurasian and Sunda plates in the eastern Himalayan ranges.
No loss of life and property
Posting on the social media platform ‘X’, an Assam resident said, ‘The earthquake was so terrible that my legs are still trembling’. At the same time, another person wrote that he felt that if the tremors of the earthquake continue like this, then their house would fall. Talking to Hindustan Times, Assam resident Anit Goswami said, ‘Initially the shocks were slow and they thought that the earthquake would stop soon, but it did not happen and then I started getting nervous. My brother was above and I kept thinking, what would happen if the roof fell?
According to reports, the earthquake shocks came at 4.41 pm, whose focal point was Udalguri district. Officials said that the depth of the earthquake was 5 kilometers. At the same time, according to the PTI report, there is no news of immediate loss of any life and property.
Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal prayed
Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal prayed for the safety and efficiency of the residents after the earthquake. Sonowal said in a post on ‘X’, ‘A fierce earthquake in Assam. My prayers for everyone’s safety and skill. Urge everyone to be vigilant.
