Cabinet Approves India 2030 Common Wealth Games Bid Names AHMEDABAD as Ideal Host

The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved India’s claim to host India’s 2030 Commonwealth Games and described Ahmedabad as an ideal host due to ‘world class stadiums, state -of -the -art practice facilities and sports culture’. The decision came a few days after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) agreed.

India has submitted a letter of intent to claim the Commonwealth Games 2030. According to a PIB release, “The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of Commonwealth Games 2030.”

It said, “The cabinet also approved the approval of necessary grant assistance to the Gujarat government in the event of signing the host cooperation (HCA) with essential guarantees from the concerned ministries, departments and authorities. The IOA can complete the process in the next 48 hours. India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010. The Commonwealth Games General Assembly will take a decision on the host country in Glasgow in the last week of November.

India’s possibility of hosting has become stronger after Canada has retreated due to financial reasons. The PIB’s statement issued after the cabinet meeting said that Ahmedabad will be an ideal city to host the Games. It said, “Ahmedabad has world class stadium, state -of -the -art practice facilities and sports culture. The ICC 2023 Cricket World Cup final has been successfully organized at the world’s largest stadium Narendra Modi Stadium. ‘

India has also expressed his desire to host the 2036 Olympic Games and is also a leader in the Ahmedabad race for it. Infrastructure is being prepared for this. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is one of the major venue with Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in which construction work is going on. Players from 72 countries participate in the Commonwealth Games and the government believes that this will promote local businesses and generate revenue.

The release said, “Apart from this, experts from many fields like Sports Science, Event Management, Logistics and Transport Coordinator, Broadcasting and Media, IT, Communication and Public Relations will get a chance.” The government believes that hosting such a big event will strengthen the spirit of national pride and unity.

The release further states that this will increase the morale of the country. This will inspire the new generation players to try hand in sports as a career alternative and increase participation in sports at all levels. Commonwealth Games will be held in 2026 Glasgow which does not have sports like wrestling, shooting, badminton and hockey. Glasgow wants to do all the games within a radius of about 12 kilometers and it has kept the budget close to Rs 1300 crore.

The IOA has clearly stated that if India hosts 2030 sports, then all these sports will be included in it. India spent Rs 70000 crore on hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games while the original budget was Rs 1600 crore.
