Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has questioned the Election Commission after the press conference of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Sunday (August 17, 2025). The Congress leader said that this is the first time that the new Election Commission has spoken directly instead of speaking through sources. In the post, Bhandari termed the claims of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi as false and reiterated the answers given by the Election Commission and accused Rahul Gandhi of making false accusations.

Taking the name of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh in his X post, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said, “Election is the soul of our democracy. Your leader Rahul Gandhi wants to break the same trust by spreading lies. If he really believes his allegations, then let him file an affidavit.
Jairam ji,
Elections are the soul of our democracy.
Your Leader Rahul Gandhi Wants to Destroy That Trust By Peddling Lies.
If he truly believes his allegations, let’s file an affidavit under oath.

Subsequently, he mentioned the claims of Rahul Gandhi and the facts of the Election Commission.
Claim 1: Votes increased after 5 pm in Maharashtra elections
Truth: The Election Commission has already made it clear that even after 6 o’clock it is normal to increase the voting percentage, because even the last voter is counted. There is nothing uncommon in this.
Claim 2: When the summer revision has been done, why is special intensive revision (SIR)?
Truth: Only absent and transferred voters are updated in revision of year after year. While verification from SIR is widely done. Because a large number of people migrate continuously, the commission goes from house to house verification.
Claim 3: Home number “0” = fake voter
Truth: Many poor citizens have no permanent house or residence to live. Their address is where they sleep. So call such poor people fake is to do injustice to them.
Claim 4: There are 1.5 lakh fake voters in the voter list.
Truth: Can millions of voters be called fake only on suspicion? The Election Commission needs evidence, not a rumor. Every voter has the right to ask for appropriate evidence for him before going to remove his name from the voter list.
Claim 5: “My statement is public, I will not give an affidavit.”
Truth: Rule 20 (3) on this claim of Rahul Gandhi, it clearly states that even if you are not voters in that election sector, you can still complain as a witness. But, for this you have to give an affidavit. This is the law.
Claim 6: Duplicate EPIC number.
Truth: Yes, in the first time there were some cases in West Bengal and Haryana, where there was a case of duplicate EPIC number. But in March itself, the problem has been resolved by issuing new EPIC cards to 3 lakh such cases.
