The Election Commission of India (ECI) held an important meeting with the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOS) of all states and union territories on Wednesday (September 10, 2025) to take stock of the preparations for the voter list verification process i.e. SIR process. The meeting was held at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi.
The conference was inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dnyanesh Kumar. During this, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi were also present. The Commission discussed in detail the election preparations with all the Chief Electoral Officers. During this time, Bihar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vinod Singh Gunjial gave a presentation in the state of Bihar state, how to celebrate his strategies, challenges and the process easy for voters, so that other states of the country can take advantage of this experience.
No polling station will have more number of voters in any polling station
In the meeting, the Chief Election Officers gave details of the progress of previous SIR and current voter list in their respective states/union territories, the number of qualified voters and the progress of digitization. The Commission also emphasized that information about the current situation of polling stations was also shared to ensure that the number of voters in any polling station should not exceed 1,200.
Commission gave guidelines for nomination of new voters
In addition, the officials suggested on the documents required to ensure that no qualified citizen should be out of the voter list and no unqualified person should be involved in it. The Commission directed the officials to encourage voters to submit the documents.
Sir Instructions given to make the process flawless and transparent
The Election Commission also instructed the officers to inform the training and capacity building of DeOS, EROS, Aeros, BLOS and Blas. The Commission made it clear that monitoring and intensive efforts will continue at all levels to make the SIR process timed, transparent and flawless.
