Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (15 August 2025) underlined India’s growing contribution in shaping India’s economic and social progress, saying, “Today every region proudly accepts the strength of our women’s power.” Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day of India, Modi said that women are not only beneficiaries of the emerging economy, but also the main driver of its speed.
The Prime Minister said, “Our daughters are making their identity from start-up to space sector, from playgrounds to armed forces. Today, women are proudly standing shoulder to shoulder in the development journey of the country.” Recalling the spirit of pride in the country at the time of the first batch of women cadets from the National Defense Academy (NDA), the Prime Minister said, “The whole country was filled with pride at that historic moment”.
Mention of Namo Drone Didi’s initiative
Modi praised the transformational role of women self -help groups (SHG). He mentioned the initiative of ‘Namo Drone Didi’, which has given a new identity to rural women. While narrating one such story, he said, “In a village, a sister told me that people now call him a pilot.” He proudly said that he is not very educated, yet his stature has increased. “
Mention of Lakhpati Didi
Modi also mentioned the government’s resolve to make three crore women ‘Lakhpati Didi’ – that is, women who earn more than one lakh rupees annually. He said, “I am happy to tell the country that two crore women have already become millionaires with the help of our women power.” He said that this goal will be achieved ahead of time. In the presence of several ‘Lakhpati Didis’ as a special guest at the ceremony held in the Red Fort courty, the Prime Minister said that his growing role will give new energy to India’s development journey.
