The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has so far raised 100 stray dogs since the Supreme Court order to send stray dogs to the shelter. The city’s 20 animal birth control (ABC) centers have been converted into shelters. The city’s mayor Raja Iqbal Singh gave this information on 13 August. He informed that the corporation has also identified 85 acres of land to keep stray animals in outer Delhi.
Raja Iqbal Singh said that the municipal body has started searching for land to make more dog shelters. He said that he would implement the court’s directive in a phased manner, which will start with aggressive and rabies -infected dogs.
‘Delhiites will get big relief’
The mayor said that the corporation will expand the ABC center at Dwarka, while in the third phase it will be considered to install a large shelter in 85 acres of Ghoga dairy. He said that after transferring stray dogs to shelters, Delhiites will get great relief.
Supreme Court Monday (11 August) Ordered that all the stray dogs of Delhi-NCR be picked up from the roads within eight weeks and transferred to the shelters made by the appropriate authorities. A bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan said that the state of rabies is very serious due to the bite of stray dogs, especially children.
First Rabies infected dogs will be raised
The mayor said, “We had assured people that we would follow 100 percent of the order. We are constantly getting calls from the residents and so far 100 stray dogs have been caught. ”He said that in the first phase only those dogs will be caught who are aggressive, rabies -infected or sick.
Singh said that at present the corporation has 20 ABC centers, which are being converted into shelters to keep the caught dogs. He said, “We are making sure that all facilities are provided so that dogs do not face any problem.”

According to the mayor, in the next phase, the municipal body is planning to expand the ABC center in Dwarka, while in the third phase it will be considered to install a large shelter in Ghoga Dairy. Singh said about the availability of land and money to keep the dogs in the shelter that there is no shortage of any of these and funding will not be an issue.
He said, “This is the government of the people and this is our priority because the residents have been facing problems for a long time.” Now we have resources and we are moving forward in a planned manner. ” According to Singh, currently 25 teams are working in the entire city and are responding to the calls of the residents. He informed that the corporation will soon start a dedicated helpline to register complaints related to stray dogs.
