‘Music became sadhana, resolution became a message’, PM Modi said in the birth centenary celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Assam on Saturday (September 13, 2025) after a visit to Manipur. Here the PM participated in the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika, who was awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna’ in Guwahati and paid tribute to him. Addressing Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations, he said that his music incorporates the concept of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’.

He further said that we all used to call Bhupen Da ‘Sudha Kontho’. This is the birth centenary day of Sudha Kontho, who gave voice to the feelings of India, connected music with sensation and told the mother Bharati to mother Bharati.

He said, ‘Even today Bhupen da is not physically present, but his voice gives energy to people. His songs thread India into the formula of unity. He was composed in the cultural traditions of India. At that time united raised a voice for the Northeast, when the period of violence in the area was at its peak.

100 rupee coin released in memory of Hazarika

He said that it is a matter of honor for the entire Northeast to eradicate Bhupen Hazarika with ‘Bharat Ratna’. On this occasion, Modi released a book based on the life of the great singer. He also issued a special coin of 100 rupees in memory of Hazarika. The Prime Minister said, “I feel honored by being a part of Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations in Assam.”

The PM said that Bhupen Hazarika has served music throughout his life, when music becomes a practice, it is our soul and when resolution is made, which shows the new path to the society. Bhupen Da visited the whole of India and then went to America, but in the stage of life, he remained connected to the land of Assam like a true son.

Love from Arunachal Pradesh like Assam

He further said, ‘Bhupen da was the great hero of unity and integrity of India. Decades ago, when the North East was left to burn in the fire of violence, he continued to give voice to the unity of India. Bhupen Da had a lot of love from Arunachal Pradesh like Assam. Our government honored the Northeast by giving Bharat Ratna to Bhupen Da.

Talking about the development of Assam, the Prime Minister said, ‘Today Assam is moving towards development at a fast pace. New records are being made in every dimension of development. These siddhis of development are a true tribute to Bhupen da. The history of this earth, the festival here, culture, beauty, divine aura and the sacrifices made by the people here are important. The first morning of the country is in Assam itself.

What did PM Modi say on Operation Sindoor?

Talking about Operation Sindoor, the PM said, ‘The country replied to Pakistan’s plans that the echo of India’s strength reached the whole world. The enemy of India will not be safe in any corner. New India will not compromise on its safety and self -respect at any cost.
