Spiritual Guru Swami Rambhadracharya commented on Saint Premananda, with whom There is an atmosphere of resentment in the saint society. Rambhadracharya had said that he is not a scholar. He also challenged Premanand Maharaj to speak Sanskrit. Many major saints have strongly objected to this statement and have described it as harmful to the unity of Sanatan Dharma. Saints say that such comments not only give rise to unnecessary controversy, but also have negative effects on society, especially the younger generation.
On the remarks of Swami Rambhadracharya, the infinite Shri Vibhushit Mahamandaleshwar Swami Chidambaranand Saraswati of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani said that he always keeps making controversial statements, which has become his habit. He said, “Such comments should be avoided. If the scale of scholarship is only to tell the meaning of the verse, then there have been many great men in our Sanatan tradition who did not take formal education, yet he gave disciples like Swami Vivekananda.”
What did Chidambaranand say on Rambhadracharya’s remarks
Swami Chidambaranand gave the example of Dhirendra Shastri of Bageshwar Dham and said that a person is identified by his actions, conduct and nature, not only by classical knowledge. He appreciated the works of Premanand and said that he is giving the message of simple life to the society, which should be given importance. Rambhadracharya is requested to avoid such fruitless comments.
At the same time, Swami Gopalacharya Maharaj, President of All India Sant Samiti Rishikesh, also spoke on this issue. He said that Sanatan Dharma has always flourished under the guidance of saints, but when a saint attacks another saint, it creates doubts in the mind of the younger generation. He said, “By taking inspiration from the discourses of young saints, they bring changes in their lives. If there is disintegration among the saints, it will have side effects on the youth.”
Giving examples of saints like Surdas and Meerabai, he said that many great saints guided the society without formal education. Meerabai made Sanatan Dharma proud by dedication to God, yet she was not a Sanskrit scholar.
What did Gopalacharya respond to the case
Swami Gopalacharya said that Swami Rambhadracharya has a big contribution in the society, but he should avoid such comments. However, the Sant Samaj has supported Swami Rambhadracharya’s reservation ideas. Swami Gopalacharya said that the Sant Samaj believes that reservation should be on economic basis and not only on caste basis.
