The desire to get trends and likes on social media has become the biggest digital addiction today. Especially the selfie has given a different thrill to the youth and travelers, but sometimes this thrill becomes the cause of death. A global study conducted by The Barber Law firm has proved that thousands of people fell victim to selfie accidents from 2014 to 2025.
The biggest reason in this study has come up, which is falling from height, which is the cause of 46% selfie deaths. Photos taken on rocks, tall buildings and bridges proved to be the deadliest. This trend is not limited to only one country but is a matter of concern all over the world.
India is the most dangerous country for selfie
India has secured first place in this report and it is not a matter of pride. 271 casualties were recorded here, including 214 deaths and 57 serious injuries.
Why is this problem so serious in India?
This problem is so serious in India, there are many reasons behind this, which is the type:
- High population density – People are at risk while taking selfies on crowded tourist places and railway tracks.
- Easy access to dangerous places – Rocks, river banks and height memorials are the center of attraction.
- Social media pressure – People forget the security in the greed of likes and share.
42% of the world’s selfie deaths have occurred in India alone.
America and Russia in second and third place
The United States (US) ranks second in this list. There were 45 casualties, including 37 deaths and 8 injured. Here, accidents occurred while taking selfies in adventure sports, tall buildings and dangerous natural places here. Russia is in third place, where 19 casualties were recorded. The icy areas, bridges and abandoned skyscrapers in Russia proved to be dangerous for the thrills.
Other dangerous countries include from Pakistan to Brazil, where death has occurred due to selfie. According to the report, 16 deaths have been registered in Pakistan. No one is injured in this. 13 killed in Australia and 14 injured in Indonesia. Apart from this, the death toll in Kenya, United Kingdom, Spain and Brazil is 13. Most of the accidents in these countries took place while taking selfies on height and water edge.

One thing has become clear in the study that the desire to be recognized and viral on social media is the main reason for these dangerous trends. People want only a great picture by ignoring security, but sometimes the result reaches death. Experts say that safety should always be given priority to passengers and youth. The price of a selfie cannot be your life.
