Stunned by the revelations of sexual abuse in Medinipur Hospital, NCW said- ‘Security system negligent’

National Women’s Commission (NCW) member Archana Mazumdar visited the private hospital in East Medinipur, West Bengal on Saturday (September 20, 2025), where a contract worker was allegedly raped. He claimed that monitoring and security measures in the hospital are ‘insufficient’.

Majumdar spent more than two hours in the meeting with the superintendent, doctors and employees of the hospital to collect details of the September 14 incident. During inspection of facilities in the hospital, Majumdar described the coverage of CCTV cameras as inadequate.

Lack of cameras in these places in hospital

He alleged, ‘Officials were told that there are 40 cameras and they have applied for 50 more cameras, but important areas are not being covered in it. There are only two cameras in the maternity ward and there is not even a single in front of the doctors’ toilet or outside the operation theater. Coverage of cameras is inadequate.

The main accused is being described as an employee of the hospital and the police arrested him after registering an FIR on the basis of the complaint. Following a complaint at Panshkuda police station, several women employees have allegedly accused of sexual exploitation.

More than 40 women testified

An official said that the Majumdar will visit a government bungalow in Panshkuda to meet the complainant who has registered a case with the police. Later, Majumdar said in a post on ‘X’, ‘Dreaded revelations in Panshkuda Super Specialty Hospital!’

He further said, ‘Today more than 40 women testified in front of me, including two rape victims. A mother came to seek justice for her daughter, who was sexually abused by the same accused in 2008. Sexual abuse, religious abuse, hospital syndicate and administrative apathy over years. Even after RGkar, the system is not awakened.
