Supreme Court suggested to create a national portal to resolve children kidnapping and smuggling cases, asked all states for better coordination

The Supreme Court has suggested to create a national portal for better solution to children’s kidnapping and child trafficking cases. The court has said that all the state should contribute to this portal to be formed under the leadership of the Union Home Ministry. The Center said that he would discuss with the states and inform the court in the next hearing.

The petition of an NGO named Gudiya Self -Service Institute states that child trafficking is an organized crime. Organized gangs of young children of weak families are kidnapped and sold to smugglers. These networks are active in many states. The FIRs recorded every day reflect the seriousness and scale of this racket.

Now the court has suggested the central government to make a national portal. The court has said that for the cases of child trafficking, appoint a senior police officer of every state as nodal officer. Their details should be made public so that people can complain directly to them about the disappearance of children. These nodal officers of the states should be connected with each other through the National Portal. Solve children’s smuggling cases with mutual support.

During the hearing of the case, the central government had given information about the lost/found portal. Information of missing children is recorded in this portal. Apart from this, the Center had said that it has given financial assistance to the states to set up human trafficking anti -human trafficking unit (AHU) in all the districts of the country. In 2020, a communication facility named Crime Multi Agency Center (Kr-Mac) was launched. In Kri-Mac, all the states continuously exchange all kinds of crime and information related to criminals.

The Supreme Court had sought information about the missing children from all states till now. The court also asked why such a large number of cases are unresolved? The bench of Justice BV Nagratna and Justice R. Mahadevan has admitted that the steps taken so far are inadequate. There is a need to take steps at the national level in this matter.
