The Supreme Court asked the Central Government to file a reply on the status of the cadets disabled during the training of the army.

The Supreme Court has heard on Monday (August 18, 2025) after taking cognizance of the condition of the former cadet injured during the army officer training. The court has asked the central government to file replies. A bench headed by Justice BV Nagratna has taken this cognizance on a media report. It was told in the report that these cadets, which have been disabled, are not even able to bear the cost of their treatment.

The court gave several suggestions to the central government and asked them to consider them and file an answer. Justice Nagratna told Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati presented for the central government that the number of these cadets is not very high. In such a situation, the government will not have much problem in taking necessary steps for them.

These are the main suggestions given by the court:- Giving a lump sum assistance to the disabled cadets, to bear the cost of treatment, if the situation has improved due to treatment, then give suitable post in the army. Also, the court has also suggested to bring all the cadets under group insurance in future.

In the media report on which the court has taken cognizance, it was told that there are about 500 such cadets in the country. This cadet became disabled while training at the National Defense Academy or Indian Military Academy. Due to this, he was removed from training. Since these people did not work as an officer, they do not get the status of ex -servicemen. They get very little monthly living amount, which is insufficient to run life or spend the medical bill.
