‘To hide your defeat …’, BJP’s sharp reversal on the Election Commission on Rahul Gandhi’s ‘vote theft’

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, once again attacked the Election Commission, raising the issue of ‘vote theft’. Describing the commission as an ‘election watchman’, he alleged that he kept ‘awake, watching theft and saving the thieves.’ This statement came a day later when he also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of saving those who harmed democracy.

Questions raised on removing name from voter list
While sharing a video of his press conference on ‘X’, Rahul Gandhi claimed that people whose names were removed were not even aware of it. He alleged that the names were erased from the voter list in 36 seconds by applying online at four in the morning. Rahul wrote on X- ‘Wake up at four in the morning, wipe two voters in 36 seconds, then sleep. Such was also theft theft. He alleged that the election watchman kept awake, kept watching theft and saving the thieves.

Examples given from Karnataka and Maharashtra
In order to justify his allegations, Rahul Gandhi cited the Aland assembly seat in Karnataka and said that the votes of Congress supporters were being deliberately removed. He claimed that an attempt was made to remove 6,018 votes before the 2023 assembly elections here. Similarly, 6,850 voters were added to the Rajura seat of Maharashtra.

Election Commission rejected allegations
The Election Commission dismissed these allegations and said that these are ‘wrong and baseless’. The Commission made it clear that the name cannot be removed from the online voter list by any common citizen.

BJP retaliation
BJP reacted sharply to Rahul Gandhi’s statements. Union Minister Kiran Rijiju said that the Congress leader should accept that the party is constantly losing the election under his leadership and the people of the country are standing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rijiju said, ‘Poor, farmers and common people consider Modi as their leader. Rahul Gandhi cannot hide his weakness by abusing the system.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad also targeted Rahul Gandhi and said that he makes a statement without preparation. Prasad said, ‘You are making allegations by showing a photo of the Election Commissioner, while Dnyanesh Kumar has recently been appointed. Rahul Gandhi is lying and putting his party in trouble.
