‘We are closely monitoring …’, PM Modi’s first reaction in Nepal amid political turmoil

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reacted amidst violent protests against social media ban in Nepal and alleged corruption. PM Modi has written a message for the people of Nepal in Nepali language itself on X itself. After returning from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, he also discussed in detail the current situation of Nepal in the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting.

On the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote in Nepali language- “After returning from the tour of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today, there was a detailed discussion about the events of Nepal in the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting. The violence in Nepal is heartbroken. It was very painful to know that many youths have lost their lives. The stability, peace and prosperity of Nepal are very important for us. I appeal to maintain peace and order. “

PM KP Sharma Oli’s resignation
Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned from his post amidst the ongoing violent demonstrations in the country. A army helicopter has taken them to a safe place. So far 22 people have been killed in clashes and arson incidents in the capital Kathmandu and surrounding areas, while more than 400 people are said to be injured.

Dialogue and new leadership preparations regarding government formation in Nepal
Negotiations between Rabi Lamichhane, Balen Shah, Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel and the leader of the protesters are in talks over the formation of the government. Meanwhile, preparations are being made to make former Supreme Court Judge Sushila Karki an interim Prime Minister. Sushila Karki has been the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal Supreme Court.
