The Election Commission has taken a tough stand on serious allegations made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi regarding disturbances in the voter list in Karnataka. Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has formally told Rahul Gandhi that if he has any strong evidence, he should give an affidavit and share it with the Election Commission.
At the same time, like Karnataka, the Chief Electoral Officers of Maharashtra and Haryana have also questioned the claims of Rahul Gandhi and have asked him to give an affidavit to confirm his allegations. Whereas the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh (CEO) has dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegation of registering the voter of Uttar Pradesh in other states including Karnataka.
What did the Chief Election Officer say in a letter sent to Rahul Gandhi,
In the letter sent by the Chief Electoral Officer, it has been clearly stated that Rahul Gandhi will have to give the names and details of all the voters whose names have been allegedly removed or disqualified. Along with this, it will also have to be told that they know the information privately or have received from another source.
The Election Commission also said that the draft voter list in November 2024 and the final list in January 2025 was shared with the Congress party. But during this time neither the first appeal was sent to any District Magistrate nor the second appeal was handed over to the Chief Electoral Officer. Now the Election Commission has also given time to the Congress delegation to meet between 1 pm and 3 pm on Friday (August 8, 2025), so that they can present documents related to their allegations.
If wrong information is found in the affidavit, then there will be a punishable offense under the law- Ceo
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Maharashtra has clearly told Rahul Gandhi that if any wrong information was found in the affidavit, it will be a punishable offense under Section 31 of the Public Representation of Representation Act, 1950 and Section 227 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023.
