Many more victims came to the fore in the investigation, who complained of cheating and smuggling of children.
Fraud of crores in the name of surrogacy
Gopalpuram police registered eight more cases on the complaints of the victims. In these, action was taken under several sections of the law. For example, in crime number 150/2025, a couple was taken Rs 22 lakh in the name of surrogacy and was shown a dead child, who belonged to another woman. 19 lakh rupees were taken in crime number 153/2025, but the child did not match the DNA couple. In crime number 155/2025, fake papers were made by misusing the name and license of 90 year old Dr. Suri.
Where were the clinics open?
Dr. Namrata opened clinics in Secunderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Nellore, Rajmundari, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata. She first claimed to treat infertility, then promised surrogacy. After charging a hefty amount from the couples, children were bought from poor mothers through agents and were handed over to them with fake DNA reports. The agents were given 3.5 lakh rupees for the girl and 4.5 lakh rupees for the boy, while 30-40 lakh rupees were taken from the couple.
Police arrested 25 accused after taking rapid action under the leadership of DI BV Kaushik. In view of the seriousness of the case, the investigation will now be given to CCS SIT. The police have appealed to the people to be careful and avoid fake fertility clinics. Professional surrogacy is illegal in India.
