Nigerian drug cartel busted, 3 crore hawala money seized in Telangana, police arrested 50

The special unit of Telangana Police, ‘Eagle Force’, took major action on the international drug cartel and exposed the 3 crore drug money hawala racket. The action took place after the arrest of a Nigerian citizen, ONEC Essomchi Kenneth alias Maxwell, who was caught selling cocaine and MDMA in Hyderabad.

After examining more than 150 transactions from Maxwell, the police exposed this large hawala network. According to the police, the gang used to send the money earned by the drugs sold by Nigerian drug smugglers in India through hawala.

3 crore cash and goods seized

These money was used to buy clothes, human hair and grocery items from Mumbai and Chennai, which were later sent to Lagos via sea cargo. In the investigation, the police have arrested many hawala kingpins like Uttam Singh and Chetan Mamania. Uttam Singh used to collect drug money of 25 lakh daily from Nigerian smugglers in Goa alone, which he used to send up to 2.1 crore every week through hawala.

24 special teams were formed for this operation, who raided Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa and Delhi and arrested 20 people. The total number of accused arrested in this case has increased to 50. The police have also seized 3 crore cash and other items during the raid.

More than 353 foreign nationals arrested in Telangana

In the last few years, more than 353 foreign nationals in Telangana have been arrested in drug smuggling cases, mostly Nigerians. These smugglers often enter India using many passports and fake identities. This action of the ‘Eagle Force’ shows that it is not only enough to arrest the pedals to prevent drug smuggling, but it is also necessary to break their financial channels.
