PM Modi on Trump: ‘Appreciation of his feelings …’, PM Modi’s first reaction to Donald Trump’s ‘friendship’ statement

US President Donald Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a good friend and great Prime Minister amidst a tariff controversy with India. He said that there is special relations between India and America and sometimes moments of stress can come, but the relationship between the two countries will remain strong.

Prime Minister Modi, reacting to Trump’s comment, wrote on X (Twitter) that he deeply appreciates the positive evaluation of the feelings and relationships of the US President and fully supports it.

Why India and America relations deteriorate?

Recently, the US has imposed up to 50 percent tariffs on imports coming from India. In August, the Trump administration imposed 25 percent tariff. After this, an additional 25 percent fee was also imposed on India for buying oil from Russia. These decisions have caused sourness in business relations between the two countries. However, India and America are still ally at the strategic and diplomatic levels.

Modi’s emphasis on strategic partnership

PM Modi said that there is a positive and visionary widespread global partnership between India and America. The partnership of the two countries is constantly strengthening with the cooperation in defense, technology, energy and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific sector. This is the reason that despite business tension, both leaders are giving priority to personal relations.

Indo-US relations balance of friendship and stress

The relations between India and America have never been very stressful. Even though there is a difference of opinion on business or policy, both countries are important partners of each other in a strategic point of view. Both countries cooperate in the fight against security and terrorism. To maintain power balance in the Asia-Pacific region, it is very important for the two countries to live together.
